The way of salvation, and the way into the world to come (heaven) has always been through trust (faith).
The TaNaKh ('old testament') bears witness to this:
YHVH = The Creator's Name formed by the 4 Hebrew letters Yod Hey Vau Hey. Commonly substituted with "haShem" or "the L-RD."

Genesis [B'reshyit] 15:6 "And he (Abraham) trusted in YHVH, and He accounted it to him for righteousness."

Deuteronomy [Devariim] 9:4 "Do not think in your heart, after YHVH your Exceedingly Powerful One has cast them out before you, saying, "Because of my righteousness YHVH has brought me in to possess this land'; but it is because of the wickedness of these nations that YHVH is driving them out from before you. 5 It is not because of your righteousness or the uprightness of your heart that you go in to possess their land, but because of the wickedness of these nations that YHVH your Exceedingly Powerful One drives them out from before you, and that He may fulfill the word which YHVH swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. 6 Therefore understand that YHVH your Exceedingly Powerful One is not giving you this good land to possess because of your righteousness, for you are a stiff-necked people."

Jeremiah [Yeremiyahu] 23:5 "Behold, the days are coming," says YHVH, "That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; A King shall reign and prosper, and execute judgment and righteousness in the earth. 6 In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell safely; Now this is His name by which He will be called: YHVH Tzediknu (YHVH our righteousness)."

Rabbinic references:
(n) Targum Jonathan: And I will raise unto David the Messiah, the Righteous. Midrash Mishle (19:21): Rab Huna counted amongst the seven names of the Messiah also: ‘YHVH Tzidkenu (YHVH our righteousness)’ (referring to Jeremiah 23:6).
Rabbi Joseph Albo of Toledo (Sepher Ikkarim 28:54): The scripture calleth the name of the Messiah ‘YHVH Tzidkenu (YHVH our righteousness)’, because He is the Mediator through whom we shall get the righteousness of the L-rd.
Rabbi David Kimchi: The name of the Messiah is therefore called ‘YHVH Tzidkenu (YHVH our righteousness),’ because in His days will the righteousness of the L-rd be a continual support for us. (See also note M; Isaiah 45:23-25;)

Psalm [Tehilim] 34:22 "YHVH redeems the soul of His servants, and none of those who trust in Him shall be condemned (counted as guilty)."

Psalm [Tehilim] 5:11 "But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; Let those also who love Your name Be joyful in You."

Psalm [Tehilim] 17:7 "Show Your marvelous lovingkindness by Your right hand, O You who save those who trust in You from those who rise up against them."

Psalm [Tehilim] 37:39 "But the salvation of the righteous is from YHVH; He is their strength in time of trouble. 40 YHVH helps them and delivers them; He delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they trust in Him."

2 Samuel 22:3 "The Exceedingly Powerful One of my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, My stronghold and my refuge; My Savior, You save me from violence."

2 Samuel 22:31 "As for the Exceedingly Powerful One, His way is perfect; The word of YHVH is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him."

1 Chronicles 5:20 "And they were helped against them, and the Hagrites were delivered into their hand, and all who were with them, for they cried out to the Exceedingly Powerful One in the battle. He heeded their prayer, because they put their trust in Him."

According to the TaNaKh ('old testament') salvation is not a result of our good deeds.  Infact, the TaNaKh shows that we should not trust in our own deeds:

Jeremiah [Yeremiyahu] 48:7 "For because you have trusted in your works and your treasures, You also shall be taken. And Chemosh shall go forth into captivity, His priests and his princes together."

I will write more soon, Yah willing.

Psalm [Tehilim] 2:11 "Serve YHVH with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, And you perish in the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in him."

Psalm [Tehilim] 7:1 "O YHVH my Exceedingly Powerful One, in You I put my trust; Save me from all those who persecute me; And deliver me,.."
